The primary victims of dog bites are children; teach them to be dog savvy

There are many reasons why dogs bite children, and most bites can be avoided. Children need to be taught how to behave with dogs. Ask your school or Humane Society about dog bite prevention classes. Dogs should be well socialized to children from an early age. Finally, monitoring both and not leaving them together unattended are critical.

Proper Petting

Many children want to pet a strange dog on top of the head, which makes some dogs uncomfortable. Show your child that the best way is to pet below the head, on the chin, chest, or flank.

The family dog should accept gentle petting and handling without discomfort or protest.

A good daily exercise for everyone in the family is to stroke the dog from head to foot. Doing this gets him used to being handled by everyone in his “pack.”
